baking soda or Borax added to wash water
One of the best things I have found to take out the odors that have been washed in is either Out Prowash or Frebreeze has one too.
Put clothing in a box with an open bowl of spent coffee grounds, close the box tops (doesn't have to be airtight). Leave for several days. Wash again and the odor should be gone.
I use ammonia in the washer with my liquid ALL. It also freshens and softens blankets.
Let soak overnight with baking soda and your normal detergent.
