I have a geranium from last spring still in its original pot. It won't die. Can I take a cutting off it? And how do I get it to sprout?

  • You can start cuttings in water, just leave the top leaves of the cutting. By sprout, do you mean flower?

  • Why not winter over the plant you already have in your garage, porch or patio? If you take a cutting, stick in in a vase in a sunny spot and change the water every few days. Or pick up some rooting hormone. My girlfriends in snowy climates just garage theirs and for the most part they are successful. Might be worth a try?

Absolutely! Just cut with a sharp knife and put right into the soil. Water, water, water

Your plant needs to be transplanted into a larger pot! I would cut off the part where it is growing so long and root that. The rest of your plant will fill out as it has a larger pot to grow in.

My Mom would put them in pots & since we had windows in our attic, she would put them there until Spring & then back outside after Mothers' Day. Since $$ was tight with 6 kids, she never had to replace them. With plants/seeds you would typically buy every year (annuals), she would dry out some of the flowers, so they would not mold, write the flower name on an envelope & then use those seeds instead of buying new plants or packs of seeds......
