Kitchen floor is old vinyl. Can i paint it and it look half decent?

Paint it. Generally I am not a fan, but sometimes there is a need. You need to get it squeaky clean to be successful. Use TSP. Here are a few links to help you out!

Since you have a special needs child, there is help out there for you - finding it though, sometimes is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Be persistent, make phone calls. Another thing to do (get your friends to help), is visit local independent flooring stores. They always have remnants and end of roll sales that are not advertised for literally pennies on the dollar, and it isn't just the cheap stuff either. You just may surprise yourself and find something you can afford.

Yes you can. Clean the floor well , and start painting . I did this 30 years ago and it was beautiful . I'm painted two coats of white actually just using latex paint . After that dried I did a bow tie pattern in blue latex. After that dried I started applying polyurethane , letting it dry between coats . I ended up applying three coats of polyurethane . It lasted for years and was beautiful

Absolutely! ! Good primer then latex paint then coat with a few coatings of clear acrylic. Did mine and it's still great after 10 years. I just add another coat of clear acrylic every year or two.

I would do what Naomi said. I have done my entire house with gorgeous high priced vinyl...for a song. Remnants are abundant in floor stores. I had recently lost my hubby and explained my situation. They were MORE than helpful and my house looks awesome. I have a tiny bungalow house with odd shaped rooms which was great in my situation !

Yes! Use water based polyurethane on the top of the paint, less toxic fumes, and it will last a very long time! As Marilyn said, use 3 coats and you should be good to go! It is a very inexpensive way to fix your floor!

Back in the sixties people spatter painted their worn linoleum. Take small amounts of desired colors. Protect the walls. Then spatter the floor. Do one color. Let it dry then the next. You may use as many colors as you like.

I have a rental property that had a kitchen floor that looked just like your vinyl. I installed 18" x 18" vinyl peel & stick tiles over the top and it looks fantastic. It is very easy to install. This was about 3 years ago and it still looks great. I bought it at Lowes and the Lowes stock number is 356511.

Please Don't paint vinyl floor, A waste of time! Unless it's an out house!

Hi, I'm Helen from New Zealand and I saw your question regarding painting your linoleum flooring. I suggest not to do this as I don't how old you linoleum is as it may be an Aspestos based one as mine was and it lifted and started breaking off at which point it became dangerous.

Because it had asbestos it couldn't be removed and to combat that hardboard was put on top and new linoleum laid in top. Seams were done with a heat treatment and joins were invisible.

I have painted vinyl flooring with sucess in the past but it does wear thin after a while. I used porch and floor paint.

Hi Maggie! Did you take a look on what is under your vinyl? 30 years ago, they tend to cover nice hardwood floor with vinyl... You might be positively surprise!
