im trying to grow oak seeds like this in water. anyone knows than this way is worked or no?
avacodoes pits get that treatment....burry the oak seed...acorn about 2 inches down in a cup of potting mix...

I grew a couple of maples last year, I just put the seed in dirt, should work the same for am oak I would think
Squirrels work as soon as acorns fall to bury as many as possible. They are not buried very deep and almost all sprout. In the springtime I must pull them all up or my lawn would be a forest. Just put them in a pot with soil, cover and water once a week. They should be left outside.
I read about (but haven't yet tried) sprouting peach pits and THAT process is long and involved so this can't be much harder. Oak saplings sprout all over in my woods here, you know (lol), under oak trees. I dig them up and transplant them to where I want them. Some survive, some don't. But I never grew one from an acorn myself. I'd think under an inch or so of dirt with a weekly watering while left on a sunny part of your outdoor patio or deck would do it. If the squirrels don't find it. Good luck! JH
It should be easy...I wonder if you can design it into a bonsai tree. Could be an interesting project. Just keep the pot small to keep the tree small.
I collected some acorns in Autumn a few years ago. I stored them in a very cold place over the Winter (Northern Hemisphere.) In the Spring, I took a file and carefully scraped off a part of the "shell". Carefully! If you see some green inside, stop. This process is called "scarification."
I dropped the acorns into a glass of water and left them there overnight. The next day I planted them in a pot.
Some of them grew and I still have them in pots now!
Always remember, they want to be outside and get the sun and wind. Take them outside during the warm weather but take them into a sheltered area when the temperature dips to freezing. They may not survive in a small pot outside.
put a piece of screen wire over the pot that you plant the acorn in. That will keep the squirrels from digging up the acorn before it sprouts. remove the screen wire after it sprouts.
I wonder if being in water will make the acorns rot before they sprout. I always started mine by waiting till the out shell cracked from drying, then planted in a small pot with soil that I kept from drying out, maybe watering 2x/week. If the shell isn't cracked by April, you could try cracking it a bit to see if that will jump start things. They don't really like being indoors unless you live in long freezing winters. You could grow a dwarf size in a pot but true bonsai are made by meticulously trimming the roots-lot of specialized work.I grow 'memory' trees, which are the seeds from trees where I have lived,like Japanese maple, oak, etc.
The town i live in is covered in Oak trees. It's literally against the law to cut them down or do anything to destroy them. They're protected here.
