I found this bench online for $40 I absolutely loved it ,yes it needed some TLC but for the price you can't go wrong. With the latest farmhouse craze it seems you see the old church pews everywere and this was as close as I could get to having one lol .
ok so I started by scraping off any old finish I could . I then used Citrisstrip gel to remove the stain .
So citrisstrip so easy to use all I do is put a relatively thick coat on with a brush . Next I cover the entire piece in saran wrap . I have to tell you the Saran Wrap makes a huge difference it allows me time to scrape off one area and prevents the gel from drying out.
this is what the bench looked liked after my first layer of gel you can see I have a lot more work ahead of me . I have to confess I really like scraping off the old finish lol it was gross Orange and thick . I have a feeling this would be a problem I'm future no matter how much I took off I think it will bleed through .
after I got all the old finish off I scraped it with a wire brush to get into the small areas . I then painted a coat of clear poly over the bench the reason I did this was to prevent the orange stain from seeping through . I painted black over the poly and added a crackle medium you can see where I added it by the lighter blue paint
Next I painted the entire bench in white and waited for the crackled areas to show through . As you can see in the photo " I love it " I made this old ugly bench look old and beautiful is that such a thing ?lol
I also lightly brushed black paint over the bench in carefully selected areas , I actually closed my eyes and went at it " kidding " 😂
my finished bench 😊🎉
