Walls with contact paper instead of wallpaper, is painting ok?

The walls have a white silvery pattern of contact paper, that is coming off I tried to pull it off but a lot of it won't so I put it back as best possible because paint will then show the spots that are not flat, plus in a couple of spots the wall came with it!! So can I just paint over it?

Hi there, yup you can go over anything with paint just make sure you get that contact paper on there and as smooth as possible before painting.

Heat an iron, no steam, iron the paper, it will come off the wall. Use a warn iron.

It will be best to try to get the remaining paper off the wall. Spray it with a mixture of fabric softener and water

I think your best bet would be to try and remove the paper from the wall. If not, at least make sure the paper is smooth as possible before you start painting.

Please don't! Do your prep work. When the rest of the glue fails under the contact paper, you will have to remove it anyway. Then repaint.

Put a pot of water on the floor next to the wall with the paper. I used a gas cooker so that it would keep boiling and therefore also be steaming. When the glue is heated it should come off easily.
