Hello April :) What have you envisioned your sewing room to be once finished, and what have you done so far?

You will need to give us pictures and descriptions of what has been done and what still needs to be done. You also need to give us an idea of what you want in the end.

Hi April, if you are wanting ideas from diyers, then you have come to the right place!

There are countless Hometalkers who are eager to share their experiences, and give suggestions to help you finish your sewing room.

The best way to approach this project so that you won't be overwhelmed with too many random ideas that may be beyond your budget, is to

    repost your question:

-post with a picture of what your room looks like now, stating size of room

-pictures need to be clear and in-focus for other others to respond best to

-tell what you would really like to have the most in your sewing area

-tell if there is anything that you would like to get rid of, or change the most

nice big cutting table, ...ironing board I put a rectangelar board padded and covered with ironing board fabric On it ..Place for sewing machine , space for quilting frame. 2x2 ‘s slightly longer than a queen size bed and c clamps to hold the corners together muslin fabric folded in half stapled to 2x2 s. That’s to pin a bottom sheet to to start you quilt. Next layer batting, next layer the top. Tie or stitch...I sorted my sewing thread by color family and put in covered plastic storage boxes. If you can hang your quilting fabric from padded hangers do it...not so many creases to iron out. Get yourself a comfortable chair. One that rolls. I stashed a love seat in front af a window for hand sewing.

I do doll repair, and design doll clothes and I have OODLES of dolls. I also do machine embroidery so I digitize as well. And I quilt. I have two rooms divided at one end with a large door way separating them. This gives more wall space. One room has an outside door I cannot block and the ceiling entrance to my attic. So things must be arranged and size to allow quick access to that area such as we recently put in insulation. I have built in shelves on the wall where the door is....that is FULL of folded fabric. I have a huge stash of fabrics and thread and accessories as well as patterns. Okay on the wall that goes from this room through the doorway, is shelves and things hanging on the wall and more fabric storage. In the room near the door there is a window on the outer wall (this part of the house is a corner) so I cannot block that... it has a cart on wheels that is multiple units of plastic drawers that I bolted together and holds paints, glue guns, glue, tapes and paint brushes, etc. The stuff I use in repair and each drawer is labeled...this flows to the inner half wall that divides the two rooms and it has more shelves of fabric, a cabinet on the wall to hold my books and a few what nots...then on to a desk that has boxes of patterns and a small peg board that I am going to repurpose there but hold something besides patterns...then go around the corner into the sewing room proper... pick up the wall where you are in the wide door way and there is a bench that goes to the corner, another bench goes too the door way that enters the room, another bench that is my machine and computer table. the final wall is the halfwall on this side and it has shelves and a movable ironing table with one of those hospital IV holders to hold the water bottle to my professional iron below...I have so many things to store yet. I can move most the dolls into the room entering these two once I get it cleared...it is pile high too and alot goes into these rooms...I have to finish painting and put up another long shelf so I can move the two embroidery only machines to the long wall where it enters the other fabric/supplies room... make sense? lol I can do more photos later, these are not the latest but I have not been in there a while now. I am handicapped and have to wait on help for some of it. I have a hip replacement coming up in Feb 2018. Recovering from first done in Oct 2017. But NOT getting the little stuff sorted and put away is driving me nuts. I like to re-purpose and reuse. I am not after a particular style but a workable solution that clicks with my crazy brain. I have 4 sewing machines that stuff up full time. My main sewing machine and a serger nearby that... then two embroidery only that stay on one of the other built in benches.

LOL.... quilting is not my main love. I did it for my 8 grand kids last Christmas. I also crochet and knit so that will be store in the access room before these rooms. I have no room for a large cutting table so will turn one of my benches once finished into a cutting pressing table by padding the top. My grandmother when alive had a sewing room to die for. It had all padded benches and she designed clothes and had a tailoring shop...I guess I came by it honest...my mom upholstered but she liked dolls too so I got a double whammy. My sister is the alterations department of a dry cleaning establishment. We can't get away from it. Of my 4 girls, 2 sew and craft and one can when she wants to...the baby is not even trying...Only one of the girls is still home...so this is MY domain. I have to make it workable so that I can get around in it safely yet have some organization. Have chair with wheels, have devoted vacuum for this area. Have plenty of work benches but they stay piled high with what I cannot find a place for... grrrrrr
