A "Modern Rustic" Holiday Home Tour

It feels like our builders-grade home has come a long way. So I shared some never before seen photos of our home all decked out for the holidays. ( Tour our home from the beginning here). I made sure my decorating was much simpler this year making my post-holiday tear down much easier. I also love decorating for the seasons which is a great way to save money, your decorating simpler and allows you to display it longer between holidays.

Each DIY was a learning process. Our vision and how we wanted our home to look became more clear as we progressed through our projects.

View from upstairs. The cathedral window frame is a DIY that you can download, or purchase from our handmade shop.

Our house can be very dark, So I lightened up our interior with white decor mixed with natural wood so that we could achieve our preferred look -- a more modern-rustic look.

I like to call my style "refined" farmhouse. In our home I embraced classic wainscoting (a DIY). Shiplap is reserved for our next house.

I will always love old maps, black and white photography and more classic interiors. But industrial and farmhouse elements always have a place in my home.

Our newest floor is from Pergo, and we love it!

I keep the dining room simple. I found too much wall clutter imbalances this space.

This tin house was on clearance last year. Funny how last year's clearance is this year's "hot" trend.

Tiny cable knit stockings from Target for every family member. I added a little mitten stocking on each one, and started learning to use my Silhouette for labels. I put the stockings on the mirror for a change of pace and to make the dining room look more holiday-oriented.

I've learned how to use my Silhouette Cameo (after having it a year) and love it!

An antique postcard, framed. Cheap, beautiful and easy art! I also have 10 FREE botanical printables available in my online tour.

The wainscoting project is our most popular project we write about. I can't imagine a full home renovation with gutting and tearing down walls. Ours was just simple embellishments that we added throughout the years, saving up money paycheck to paycheck.

You've probably seen this kitchen before. I did the backsplash stencil project thinking it was temporary but we never replaced it. So many more photos of the kitchen are available...

But...I'm at my max # of photos! I think I took about 50 photos or more and it's hard to share them all here or I'd break Hometalk! icon Feel free to visit our other spaces (and see both part 1 + part 2 of our tour). I also have 10 free botanical printables for you, just for visiting! Happy decorating!
