I'd keep them in the garage or shed and use them to stand up your handled tools like rakes, shovels and brooms.

Hi there, any kind of paint would work find I would think, just remember that cardboard is going to suck it up big time so you may have to do a few coats!

You can use any paint on the boxes and it should stick well. To attach to the wall, you could use command brand velcro, that you can then unstick from the wall whenever you want. Here are some links to help, too:

Recycle sorting , sorting laundry , put garbage bags in them to keep them clean. Also do some thing to get them up off floor to protect bottoms..

Wow... where to start, I would say just about any type of paint would adhere well to cardboard.... my 1st thought before I read all of the question was wall paper or fabric... but paint would probably work well. You could probably gorilla glue some trim pieces in first to hold the divider shelves... I don't know what it's called but I'm thinking of the little small pie shaped trim, think it's called quarter round & comes in different sizes. But anyway those would glue nice to cardboard & paint up nice. Must be a nice thick cardboard? You could probably use something similar (same thick cardboard) for the shelves if what ever you are putting on them isn't too heavy? Or you could brace each one in the center bottom and have smaller spaces in those. Or thin plywood.. but it will sag too overtime.. you could use wood screws in the trim pieces from the outside in, putting a washer 1st so it won't go through the cardboard... then you'd have to figure out something decorative to hide each screw... I'm thinking like the head of a decorative upholstery tack even in a contrasting color.... like black wall unit w/ copper tacks etc. Just thinking if the slats are screwed & glued you could use a much heavier shelf on them.

Not sure about the wall... is there trim board by the floor or can it sit flush? You could actually hang it like it was a giant shelf by putting those larger size triangle shape hooks on the back (screws & washers & bolts). Would only have to put 2 screws or I prefer paneling nails at a 45 degree angle to hang it. Or my 1st thought was heavy duty velcro... in hardware dept. Any residue left by the velcro adhesive can come off w/ "goo gone" years down the road. I've used the heavy duty self adhesive vercro on many projects & it is great (I wouldn't paint where the velcro goes though). You can get your shelves cut the right size for you at any of the big stores that sell lumber. Not sure what you meant for the flaps? If they aren't doors I would cut them off... unless they are the same size as the sides... then I would tuck them in for reinforcement & would give a more finished looking edge.
