throw it out. Most shelters will not give out candy

Nothing goes to waste in my house. Freeze it and enjoy later. I take all the stuff to work, it gets gobbled up in no time. Offer to friends and neighbors, they can use for their NYE celebrations.

Freezing it, it taking to work, is a great idea. That way there's less waste!

It depends if you want to start a diet in the new year, if so toss it out. There is no shortage of candy or sweets.

If you do not want it I am sure senior centers would appreciate the donation

I put all christmas candy in the freezer and take it out only as a treat. If you are talking about a kid - yes - go for the star!
