    • Very true! Mine is relatively new and heats up quickly, but older models, especially in colder climates can take as long as 24 hours to heat a 30 gallon tank and longer for larger ones. I have only used it once during an extended hospital stay. It also depends on whether gas or electric and possible energy costs for whatever part of the country you live in.

Yes. The water heater should be on a separate circuit breaker. It should be no problem.

Not only you should shut water heater off (gas or electric) on the tank & shut water off going to it. Just make a note to your self that its off.

Do not turn it off in the cold weather, why tempt freezing which can result in a ruptured tank with water damage and cost of replacement. Leaving it on cost so little compared to possible large cost of freezing.

I have a gas one at my 4-season cottage, and I only put it on vacation mode. I have been told by many heating experts and plumbers to leave the gas/pilot light on to prevent problems with spiders. I have had to repair a FP, and replace a wall heater, because I didn't heed the warning.
