Buy carpet rectangles from a carpet store and put them on the floorboards

I haven’t found anything better for mud and dirt reduction in the floorboards than old beach towels, those too thin or faded to take to the pool. The towels can be spread out to cover lots of area, or folded to give extra absorbency and strength; they are easy to shake out and launder; they would possibly seldom be used for other jobs. ☺️

I use old bath towels that are cut in halfhalf and tucked in, but that is just the 1st phase. 2nd phase is Weather Tech mats. You can find less expensive options at an automotive store. Before I had the custom mats I had rubber-like mats that had deep grooves. I still like the old towels because I can get my shoes/boot clean and dry so there is no slipping off the clutch or brake. Plus nothing is easier to launder than towels.

I have WeatherTech fitted mats. They aren't cheap but are good. I had a cheaper brand before and liked them even more, but they didn't have the mats for my latest vehicle model. I'm trying to remember the name. They were ordered online through Costco. I'll do a search.

After having the floor rust on a couple of vehicles, despite being vigilant, I have to say they are worth the investment and prevent wet dog/dirty sock smell.

Ok found the ones we had originally, that I liked better:

    3D Maxpider mats

They fit our vehicle better. There are however many different brands, and even the car companies have some.

I have to say that before them, we had deep groove universal mats, and they made the situation worse, because the water would pool and then spill and get trapped underneath. Carpet mats in my opinion are better than that.
