Start from the bottom up with warm sudsy water and a sponge mop. Use dry rags or towels to wipe off drips as you go and you won't leave water spots. Use this opportunity to wash the baseboards, too, with a sponge or soft cloth. 😊
I use a step ladder with a paint tray, a wash basin and a car sponge. Go to Dollar Tree and get 1/2 gal. of Awesome Orange, a car sponge and kitchen rubber gloves.
I like using vinegar and warm water. Sometimes I use a couple of squirts of dish soap. Most of the time if my back is acting up, I skip the soap, so I don't need to rinse. I too use a sponge or microfibre mop (better), and start at the bottom. I hate using TSP, so I switched to vinegar. Whenever we moved though, I would use TSP to remove grease, cigarette smoke etc. from others.
The first thing needed is endurance. This is a tough job and probably won't get finished in one day unless you have some help. Sheetrock? Pained? You want to avoid streaking.
409 for sure. Pour your 409 in a bucket; wet down your washing cloth instead of spraying it on the wall. Have a few wet cloths handy to rinse. BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET THE WALL TOO WET!
When I wash windows, I do not stand and spray and wipe...it wears out the hands. I use a cloth dipped in cleaner and squeezed out, followed with a dry cloth.
This eliminates breathing in any fumes also. It may take a little more cleaner, but it beats filling your lungs with fumes!
Lay old towels at base and the start with a soapy sponge.
