Carpet coming into master bedroom
I rent but I hate the carpet in my master bedroom what can I do?

The carpet is stained and gross I have lived here for 6 years. Should I rip it out and change it without asking my landlord or can I suggest that I will pay for putting in laminate flooring to make it nicer. It's not a huge bedroom.

Having been in the position of landlord, I would ask why you did not come to me first. Last thing you should want is to create an adversarial relationship. Tell him what you have in mind and ask how you can work together to make your stay better while enhancing the value of his property. A tenant who has paid rent for 6 years and wants to fix up the property is a valuable commodity.
Why don't you just mention the state of the carpet to the Landlord and see what he says.........or just put a rug over it.
A lot of times the landlord will pay for the materials if you do the diy. Worth checking. Especially if you are good renters. It is always a benefit to the landlord when you do improvements. Good luck
You can't remove it without your landlord's permission. Ask if they will replace it. If they are not willing to pay the entire cost, offer to remove the old stuff to save on labor cost. It will then need to be disposed of, also. If you are handy, suggest them paying for the materials and you will also install. Point out that the flooring is in poor condition after years of normal wear and tear.
I agree with Rae....you are there 6 years? ask if maybe you can do the work, they can pay for it or share the cost.
I would ask the landlord if they would be willing to change it, and if not, then offer to do it if they will let you take if from the rent. If they won't you might want to price it before you go ahead and do it on your own dime, and that will probably still need the landlord's approval, even an improvement could prevent you from getting a security deposit back, depending on how the lease is worded
You should talk to your landlord. My landlord agreed to change the closet for his own money, so it's possible you'll get lucky.
You could ask the landlord if they would buy the new carpet if you pay for the installation, or if they won't ask them if you can replace it. If that fails, you could put a large area rug on top of it.
Put area rungs over the top of it.
Since you have such a successful history with your landlord, I would suggest you ask for a new carpet. If no luck, put an area rug down.
