Does anyone know how i can paint my blinds? Or change the color.

Believe it or not, they are white but look so yellow from the previous owner, who were smokers. I thought about dyeing them black but thought I'd make a big mess. Can someone give me any idea's to get them black without having to get rid of them?

i don’t think paint is thr Answer just yet.use tsp and soak the blinds, WEAR GLOVES! When handeling cigerate smoke covered items, the nicotine can be absorbed thru the skin. Give them a good cleaning, let dry throughly. No dampness to be found.then spray paint them.

Cigarette tar is nasty stuff and creates a health hazzard even when it isn't in the air. They are calling this Third-hand Smoke now. You can wash it away but it is a task to do so. You mentioned dye, are these blinds fabric? If they can't be scrubbed, you can paint them. Again, you are looking at a jumbo task.

Do your best to get them dust free. Using spray paint, prime them first with a stain blocking primer. Then follow with the color of your choice. If these are verticle blinds, you can paint the individual slats with a roller, but don't skip the primer cigarette tar is notorious for bleeding thru paint.

Have you thought of decoupaging them in black material or contact paper?

Fill your bathtub with warm/hot water, add 1/4c. liquid laundry soap and 1/2c. baking soda, swirl to dissolve and mix. Soak the blinds for a while (30-60 mins), then gently scrub/wipe. Drain tub water and rinse. I pat them dry with a bath towel laid out on the floor, then rehang to let them dry fully. Be sure to put a towel on the windowsill and that the slats are all separated from each other. The may just clean up to your satisfaction, if not they'll be clean for painting or dyeing.

I throw them in the tub with bleach when I get a client who is a smoker and want them white again. Also sometimes I hang them outside over garage door on nails and use a car brush on them and put dollar Tree Awesome Orange in an old windex bottle hose attachment.... just melts nicotine off. Wear gloves... drys skin out. Rinse, turn around and do the other side. Let dry for awhile and put back in.
