Does anyone have a way for me to garden easier

Two and a half years ago I was diagnosed with 2 forms of severe arthritis that affects my hands and arms which I can't operate a rototiller or use a shovel to dig up my garden. I also can't afford someone to do it for me as I have no income to pay them for their time and that defeats the purpose of me getting to be able to garden.

ower? You have my sympathy as I too battle severe arthritis. Have you thought of using raised boxes. You would need help getting soil into the boxes but after that, a small spade should do the trick. I'd do a blind bottom and fill the top half with just enough soil to grow things. They should be at a height that does not require you to bend at all.. For cutting grass, a riding lawn m

Yes, become a garden guru in your neighborhood and teach young children and families to eat healthier. Make it a community project and charge $20 a month per family. This way you get the best of both worlds.

If that doesn’t work, invest in copper bracelets and gloves for better blood flow and pain reduction.

Have you considered planting vegetables in large flower pots or raised wooden containers? You can use the existing soil from your garden and add compost, fertilizer and topsoil as needed. It is easier to weed, water and work the soil at any height greater than ground level. Commercial raised gardens are expensive. You can build and design raised wooden beds using scrap or unused wood. It can be built to accommodate the space and height you require. I suggest you begin with a few ideas such as using large patio pots,an old large garbage can drilled with holes for drainage. An old patio table or picnic table could hold plants or be modified with wooden sides to hold soil. An old wheelbarrow could work too. This way you can find the height that works best for you so you will be as comfortable as possible when you garden. If one method works this year, maybe you could have a larger more permanent raised garden built. I hope you find some solutions that work for you from people responding to your question.Best of Luck!

Check out this link: http://extension.oregonstate.edu/gardening/layer-compost-lasagna-style-no-till-gardening Lasagna Gardening is becoming quite popular and appears to be much easier than traditional gardening methods. I can identify with your difficulties because of arthritis as I have 2 types of arthritis and it is very difficult to do as much in the kitchen as I would like.

I also use raised beds. I bought untreated lumber 2x2x8 and had each cut in half. Made 16" high beds. I use MIRACLE GROW garden soil and though not cheap (takes 13 to 15 large bags of soil), it yields a great crop! When not in use, you can cover the dirt with layers of news paper and hold in place with large rocks. If you have a couple of good neighbors, ask for their help and tell them you will give them vegetables for their troubles.
