I am creative, I love color and I think I could paint, no seriously I could start off with the basics and as learn as I go. Ok so no laughing, I put my heart into this because I love seascapes.
Here are the steps I took:
* Dampen your canvas with a brush dipped in water, it's better for blending colors.
* Divide your canvas into three sections laterally for the sand, the sea and the sky.
* I started with the beach, using a dark brown and then shades of greys and taupes to blend to create varying shades.
* The horizon should be as straight as possible. I used painters tape at the top of the ocean until I had this area finished painting.
* The ocean started with a dark blue then blend in other shades to create highlights and movement. Dark shades represent colder water and lighter shades represent warmer water.
*I blotted lightly some white along the shoreline to create bubbles and seafoam that often occur there.
* Remove the tape and place a strip on your ocean sude once its dry.
* Free hand or use the edge of a bowl to create your sun in a blend of yellows and oranges, I made it lighter in the center and darker towards the edge.
* Begin blending reds, pinks and coral shades that are typical with a sunrise.
* Shades of blue, white and light gray for the cloudy skies above.
* I created the sun reflection on the water with bands of pale yellow.
*I added a rocky outcrop or hill and a flock of seagulls in the opposite corner.

* Finally I glued seashells down along the beach to give it a 3D effect with Aleenes Tacky Glue.
* Last but not least was to apply a couple of light coats of matte varnish over the entire canvas.
It may not be the best seascape painting or even great but it's mine...all mine. If you never try something new you'll never know if you can accomplish it or not. It's a great confidence builder and a relaxing hobby to develop, now on to my next painting. It helps that I have inspiration from the many photographs I take of our beaches like this December sunrise seen below.
Thanks for viewing my post all the way from Newfoundland, Canada.
