Sounds crazy, but stick it in the freezer and then the wax should crack right off.

Hi Frieda, I would try a blow dryer on Hottest setting but slowest setting. and wipe or peel it off with a soft rag as it melts. Don't use a paper towel as it may scratch your candlestick. The freezer may work, but it may also crack your candlestick.

    Good luck!

Did the warm water help any at all? What about a warmer water, and let them soak for abit? Maybe for a couple of hrs., then pick it off with a toothpick., try this, and then get back to us, and we will think of other ideas. Best wishes, with the HOT WATER, J.

Or, you can leave this in water over nite, and then work on it in the morn. This should really be ready to come off. Best wishes, J.

I would use your hair blower to heat the wax a bit. When it warms up, you should be able to get it off. You mentioned that the candle sticks are stained??? If so, try using baking soda mixed with vinegar. Just blot it on to start and then see if it will work. Your antique candle sticks are beautiful. Next time you use them, get candles that don't drip. I think Wal Mart sells them. Good luck.

Believe it or not.. Putting the holders in freezer for 30 minutes will harden the wax, it then will flake off, with a butter knife. Then warm dish water .
