Hi Alice, When it comes to pruning, I use the Old Farmer's method: from Spring thru Fall, prune during months that have a "R" in their name. For example, it's OK to prune in April but not in May. May does not contain a R. I like this method because it's easy to remember. I hope it helps you.
January or early February
do not cut into branch or lop off crape myrtle...just top them a bit...I hate seeing crape myrtles butchered by cutting all the way back to main branch..
