This is how I brought back a busted up cuckoo clock and made a curvy shelf to go next to it.
This is the finished clock and shelf. The cuckoo clock was free and the shelf was made from scrap wood! icon
This is the busted clock all cleaned up. It's missing the original roof and faux weights. I actually didn't think I'd get it back in working condition.
I wouldn't normally paint a clock, but I've always wanted to. I love looking at clock flips, but have never had a clock I was willing to paint.
We bought these plastic pine cone Christmas decorations at the dollar store to make into the weights.
Annie Sloan time! My wife Mariko and I are Annie Sloan fans. It's totally worth the price and it's actually more expensive here in Japan.
I took the clock hands off to paint the face. The clock took three coats and some touch ups.
I even painted the cuckoo bird. I used a bamboo skewer to gently push him down to paint under his wings. icon
I love it!! We collect clocks and this is our first cuckoo clock. We have another one on its way that we'll keep in the original color.
Now the curvy shelf. This shelf has recently been replaced with a different shelf, because it's too curvy. I over did it with the jigsaw on this bad boy. I still really like it, but it doesn't fit in well with the rest of the room decor.
I painted the edges in this dark chalk paint first. Dry brushing over it with a lighter color will give it a cool aged look
This is the shelf before sanding. You can see the darker color peeking through.
The finished shelf. I love that distressed look!

Excellent idea.........I have at least ten old cuckoo clocks in my pole building and I have one room that I have decorated entirely in blue and white........flow blue and other vintage pieces and one of these would be great painted white. Thanks.......never been too much in ideas like this........I am the type that God give me patience and I want it now!

Certainly........as soon as my son gets home I am going to have him go pick up a couple to start with and.......if I like it painted white, I will be delighted!
