you could go the home builders construction sites and ASK to go dumpster diving for scraps. They throw away so much.

I'd look for pallets behind stores. Ask - They are free and can be taken apart and use the wood to build your dog house.

No offence, stop taking more animals! I have the same problem, I am an animal rescuer, and I had to put a stop to taking more animals, I need to survive them to be able to take care of them.

Advice, you are on the internet, hook up with rescue teams, for more advice.

The perfect shelter is a garage, or a small shed, with headlamps, I use them, they do not take a lot of electricity, and the lamps are not very expensive.

You did received already super good advice, ask for scrap wood from stores.

Be sure the kennels you make are off the ground with freezing weather, on bricks, or anything you can find to stop the frost and moist, even strong outside dogs are able to get frostbite!! Cover the roof with thick plastic to keep the kennel dry.

Make a small entrée, only large enough for the dog to get in, put straw in the kennel.

If you know anybody who receives meals on wheels, they use Styrofoam for the inside, the people who receive those boxes are all disposing them, use the Styrofoam for the inside walls of the kennel.

Good luck to you and your pets!!!

If you have a garage and fenced yard just build a doggy door in the garage. No need to build anything. Put towels or old carpet at entrance where they would come in your house. My dogs are like my family I always find solutions for them to be comfortable :)

You could get some pallets for free, nail into a box form and then staple tarp over the top and sides.

Freight moving companies usually sell used plywood crates for a reasonable price. Combining 2 of those would make a sizable 'house' for your furry friends. I have also purchased same size crate made of fiberglass. Good luck with your project!

Hey thanks for keeping those dogs. I gave my old carpeting to my neighbors who have 3 big dogs. I gave them pallets and they made A frame houses and stapled plastic on it for warmer weather. Hard winters they keep them in the garage. God bless you for caring for those beautiful creatures.

Watch out for wood shipping containers. Sometimes businesses give them out free. Lightly sand and remove debris. Seal it with shellac. Put their pillos inside - home sweet home. Also watchout for people giving free crates online.

With all the rebuilding in PR, there is probably a lot of scrap wood, plywood and such around. Four 4ft. 2x4s and two pieces of plywood would make a good A-frame doghouse. With a pallet to keep the dogs off of the ground and a tarp to cover it, you would be set.
