What EXACTLY do I use to Paint over Ceramic Tile in my basement?

My house is 50+yrs old. We are more than certain there is ASBESTOS under those tiles. So instead of risking death and tearing them up, I was just going to paint over them. Some are even missing/broken, so I was hoping I could pour a little concrete and smooth it over to make it flush with the other tiles. But I have seen several things to buy to paint a floor with. I was just wanting to know what exactly I need to buy, something inexpensive.
I'm also debating with myself on doing the 'Brown Paper Bag Floor'. So if I went that route, would I have to do anything to the floor FIRST? Besides sweeping it really good?

It exactly depends on where the tile is. Wall, floor, shower? Lots of traffic or seldom sees anything living? Rust-Oleum makes a tub and tile paint kit but searches turn up little else.

Reason is if you think about how hard ceramic tile is and how hard dried paint film is, there is a big disparity. I don't care how well you prep the tile and how good the paint is, it cannot possibly have even a small percentage of the durability of the original tile.

Depending on the use of the area where the tile is, as I asked above, a better choice may be an overlay. Panels that you can put over the tile attached with adhesive.

Thanks for your reply, and the tiles are on the floor of the basement. I myself, only goes down there to do laundry. I maybe walk on 6 squares of tile to get to the laundry room. But I may have to sell this house soon, if my other house in another state doesn't sell soon! :( So I'm looking for inexpensive quick ways to fix up my basement, in case I do need to sell quick.

You will not be risking death if you tear up the tiles. Just wear a mask or have a professional come out and check for asbestos.

That was a joke, about death. And no, a mask won't work. And it's not cheap having a professional in asbestos come out. Trust me, been there done that. It's MUCH cheaper, and safer to just cover the tiles up and leave the asbestos alone. Thanks for your input though.

My daughter's house was painted with lead paint and we re-painted with an encapsulating paint over it instead of sanding and disturbing the lead paint. It is quite expensive, but well worth it.

Can you use that on the floor? And where would 1 buy that at? I'll try to google it. Thanks for the tip.

WHEW! That stuff is Expensive. Honestly, I think I am going to cover my asbestos tiles with brown paper bags (brown paper bag floor) and multiple coats of polyurethane. I'll just make sure to sweep my floors really good, first. Thanks again Chubby58.

go to the builders yard and buy a water based brickwork sealant to coat the tiles with first then paint over what you like so, as long its a mat or gloss paint eric
