Hello friends! I am so happy to share this project with you all! This is a hutch makeover that I did for a client. Since this hutch was so large, we opted to just do the makeover in the clients home rather than move it.

This hutch was solid wood and super heavy! It was enjoyable to makeover, and now the client has a "new" hutch that suits with the farmhouse style makeover we did on her home.
So this is the hutch before we touched it. Our client has had this hutch for over 25 years and I must say, it was in fabulous shape!

To start this project, I took the top part off the hutch, and then I sanded the whole thing down. It's super important when you are painting furniture to take all the pieces apart. Take drawer and cabinet doors off and especially the hinges and drawer pulls.

To sand it I used my 18-Volt ONE+ Cordless 1/4 in. Sheet Sander. I love this little sander, it has lots of power for running off a battery and I love the dust bag feature.
The top piece was super heavy to get off but in order to get a high-quality paint job it needed to come down.
I removed all the cabinet doors, drawers, hinges, and drawer pulls and like I mentioned earlier, this is a critical step.
The pain that I chose for this project was Lazy Linen by Country Chic Paint. This is my favorite color from Country Chic Paint. I love it! It is like the perfect farmhouse grey!
To paint the hutch, I did two full coats allowing 24 hours drying time in between layers. You could get away with a shorter drying time but like I said this was at a client's home so I did one coat one day and came back the second day to do the next one.
For the top of the server and the drawer fronts, I wanted to do something a little different.

I decided to use a stain, and I am so happy I did! I went with Dark Walnut from Minwax.

An important thing to remember when staining a piece like this is to make sure you have sanded off the entire previous finish to get the best adhesion of the stain.
I am so in love with this hutch and if I could I would take it home to my house!!
Painting furniture is a time-consuming job but totally worth it, and if you take your time and do it correctly, you'll be left with a "new" piece that will look fab in your home!
To make the hutch suit more with the contemporary farmhouse style of the client's home, I updated the drawer pulls to these industrial style pulls.
If you're considering painting a piece in your home, go for it! I highly suggest using Country Chic Paint, too. It's easy to work with and has great coverage.
