  • I have done this, you must put a primer coat on first. Then paint your walls.

I did this and yes, clean the walls with TSP, use a primer, then paint. Works well. Use a good quality paint.

Hello. First make sure the paneling is nice and clean. I would use a oil base primer instead of a latex. I have done this and the oil base took and covered better. Then paint. Good Luck!

Can fill seams but don't have to..prime and paint. Might take a couple of coats. Good Luck!

I painted my 1949 rec room which is now my workout room.

Wash the walls with Dawn. Use a regular latex primer (no need to use oil base primer) and multiple coats to cover (I used Glidden basic white). No need to fill the seams, just use a tiny paint brush to get into the groves. Mine turned out beautifully! Let us know how it turned out!

We did this to an entire house that was built in the 60's. We lightly sanded the walls due to the sheen. We washed all the walls down with dawn and a sponge mop, went back over it with a wet mop let it dry. Use a good primer for the first coat, then a good paint for the remaining coats. Make sure to dry well in-between. We went from very dark, dark brown to white and never looked back. Gave the house much needed light. Good Luck you will love it when your finished.
