Paint colour for kitchen

by Mary-Ann
My kitchen cabinets are antique white with a caramel glaze which gives them a yellow tint overall. I am thinking that a nice green would enhance them. My kitchen sitting area has big windows and a forest view and bright rust furniture. Any ideas?

Hi Mary-Ann. If it's just the tint you want to change, it could be as easy as changing out the lightbulbs. Incandescent lights tend to throw warmer tints on the room. Check out some of the options with LED - you might find just changing the tint of light to a bluer hue will give you the unity of color you're seeking. Good luck.

I already have LED ceiling lights which I just had done. Love the clean color rendering. It is the wall color which I am struggling with. Thankyou

Your kitchen is lovely. I feel like you need some color away from the browns/tans, but I would NOT re-paint my cabinets. Try adding some brighter accent colors in your kitchen. Maybe on your windowsill or in the corner upper cabinet with the glass door.

I painted my kitchen the jadite color of my dishes and it's sift and warm. I also recommend putting the strip of possible colors from the paint store up in the kitchen for a few days to see how it reacts to light before you paint. Hope this helps.

I painted mine a light green and hated it! It is now a pale butter yellow. I love the brightness and cheery color now.

Looking at your picture, I seem to be reading a slight peach hue in the cabinet. A nice light peach would be pretty if that is the case.

I could see distressing them with green glaze. I would also do the bay window.... I think the wood is detracting from the overall effect.

    some inspiration.... https://www.google.com/search?q=pictures+of+white+kitchen+cabinets+distressed+with+green&client=opera&hs=6YY&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjb3fvH7NPYAhVQ52MKHRZEBo4QsAQISw&biw=1657&bih=822

I could see a sage green glaze or a minty one.... https://www.pinterest.com/pin/175429347956353452/

Glad to help, yes the kitchen looks nice except for that window, I think if you get that done, it will be great.

Then, it sounds like something in the greens or even tans would bring unity from the forest outside, inside to your kitchen. You're on the right track. How fortunate you are to have that view! If you're unsettled on the color, paint craft paper with paint samples and tape it to your cabinets until you find the right combination.

Lovely kitchen with a stunning window. I do agree with a previous post that the window trim takes away from the flow of “lightness” your cabinets provide. Perhaps when you decide on your paint color for your wallS and are painting you may want to paint that window trim the base color of your cabinet. I really think it will make a huge difference. Good luck with your project

I love your cabinets, personally I would lighten the the wood trim to go with the cabinets. I love wood, theses just seem a bit dark. Maybe the green on the wood? I think it is lovely the way it is... Like the above posts suggested, maybe just new lighting...

Finally found the chips. GLIDDEN paint, lucky lime. Also, maybe a yellowed tone would work ok, festival green, same paint brand. Have fun!
