Like many people, I painted my walls a yellow gold color in the early 2000's. It was a good neutral color that went with my jewel tone color furnishings. I finally decided to go Gray. One thing always leads to another in redecorating so the planning began. This is the before photo...
Family Room Before
Choosing the right Gray paint color was important. There are so many to choose from. You have to be careful because they all have different hues. i wanted a griege tone (biege\gray). I started by getting the paint sample cards from the paint store. Once I narrowed it down, I bought the actual paint samples to paint on the wall as a test. Lighting makes a huge difference in how they look.

Above are the colors that I chose. SW Repose and Mindful Gray. Mindful Gray for the family room and the lighter Repose Gray for the adjoining foyer and hall. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you didn't know they were different. It's always best to use a lighter color in a small space to make it look larger. Next was the area rug. It's best to chose accessories first. If you don't, you'll never find the right ones to match!
New Area Rug
I sold my old sofa and rugs on Facebook Market Place! This helped with the costs some. Next was the search for a new sofa! I wanted something comfortable and classic. Below are a couple of after pics.
After view one
This is one view. Purchased new drapes but kept the coffee and end tables and the blue leather chairs. The occasional chair came from a consignment shop in Charleston ,SC. Everyone comments on how light, bright and larger the room looks. A nice clean feel!
Another view of after.
You can see the fireplace remodel in another one of my posts. Next I will show you the adjoining dining room and foyer.
