I have a wildflower plot growing across the driveway from my home.

Question

The area is rectangular and about 40 x 60 feet. I am building a 13 x 20 workshop behind the area (with help). There is a well with a faucet inside the flower area. I have done no landscaping at all and would love some ideas. My property is very rocky and I have been saving rocks for a few years as I have dug up place on the property with hopes of making a rock and flower garden. I am a disabled senior, so although I have skills, I do not have the strength and stamina, so it cannot be too hard. I just sowed the flowers last year. Thanks, Marilyn.

We soun a lot alike, I’m disabled as well! So I understand your limitations all too well! Myself, I too love flower! I’d not deal with rocks too much myself, instead I put bark nuggets around all my plants that help keep weeds from growing and also hold moisture in so plants get more moisture for longer periods of time. All the plants seem to love the bark nuggets! Don’t confuse this with bark dust, bark dust deteriorates into dirt too fast and weeds grow quickl! Make sure it’s bark nuggets and you can get them in different sizes too usually. I prefer mine to be smaller to a medium size nugget. It can save you a lot of maintenance in your flower beds in the long run and when you do get a weed the weeds will pull out very easily if it’s not left to grow for over a year or so. Naturally longer they grow the harder it is to remove them! I also put in several minutiae azealas and mini rhod along with my flowers so my flower gardens don’t look bare during the winter months! I live in zone 8 and many of my flower gardens are in full sun so that limits what plants or flowers I can grow successfully!
