Regrowing celery from "leftovers."

I have tried several times to regrow celery using the bottom portion that is normally thrown away after using stalks. I have rooted it successfully several times in a glass in the window. I then transplanted it into a tall pot. It grows very well for about a month, and then begins to die. I am wondering if I am over watering it (I did about twice a week), or if there is something else I'm doing wrong. During the day I place it in front of the patio window for light. During the evening, I close the drapes and place it just outside the drapes. Is is possible getting too warm? It seems to do well with cooler are between patio door and drape, with drape closed. But, still dies off after about 4-6 weeks in pot. Would really like to be able to keep one growing.
