Our wood floor has popped up in an area. How do we fix it?

It's only about four boards by about two feet. We are thinking the boards have come unglued. We do not know who put them in, and were wondering how we could fix them ourselves.

Are they hardwood, laminate or engineered flooring? Is there a basement or crawl space below the floor? Are you sure that it's glued down? Most hardwood is nailed, depending on the subfloor. Click on the article below to find out what can cause this to happen if your floor is hardwood.

I also found a video for how to fix the popped-up floor if it's engineered hardwood over concrete. Click on the video to watch it. Wishing you the best.

You can glue it back down. If you can get under boards then you can use liquid nail. If you cant get under then then you will need to drill small holes in each board and squeeze mixed epoxy in holes. Either one you use...you will have to put heavy weight on them till they dry completely...if any of the glue slipped thru you can get it off with mineral spirits. Hope this helps.

Forgot a step...after dry and cleaned up fill holes in with colored putty...might have to mix some colors to match your floor color. From...RFD.

There are a few reasons why it may have popped up Which depend on the type of wood floor.

If it is a solid wood floor then you can use screws with a small head and then sink them. Then fill the holes with wood putty.

If the floor is a manufactured muticomponent type then moisture may be making one of the back layers expand. On this type of floor carefully cut at one of the sections that slides in with an exacto knife or other thin blade. There should be a ridge that snaps the board in place. (Choose the board least obvious one.) You'll have to cut through the ridge that holds it in place.

Carefully lift the boards that need glued without damaged the lock tabs. Then use a floor adhesive or liquid nails to reglue in place. Use some extra glue where the ridge piece was cut off. Then tape and sit something heavy on top until the glue dries. As a side not, sometimes you'll need to cat a tiny bit off one of the flooring strips to get it to fit...

Should you you pull out the first board and it is swollen then moisture has been the problem. When that is solved, either find replacement flooring to put down or carefully sand the back side to the same depth as the other flooring that isn't damaged.

I hope I or you just have simple wood floors.
