So this is a work in progress right now! Finished painting the guest room, but still hated the closet doors. Plain ugh. Thought I could add a pop of color by trying out a modge podge of maps. Why not?? If Im not happy when its done I can go on to plan B. So far so good! Door one is Oregon and Washington....Door #2 will be the atlas ripped apart from our cross country trip this past October from Oregon to Maine....I will post when completely done!
First things first.....Honey....come lift the doors off the tracks for me!
Awkward but easy
Since its rainy and cold outside...Decided to use my "quilting table" for the project. (ONE of the best things I have EVER bought)
The "handle" pops out with a light tapping..also a small piece of the veneer with it. No worries since its ALL getting covered!
A light sand to break the finish (I think I spent around 10 minutes doing this
Uck part..but make sure you wipe it all clean with a damp rag.
Maps..check.....Sponge brushes...check..Modge Podge...check.....
If you played in the glue as a kid..you CAN do this! Thought about ripping into smaller pieces..but I opted on bigger sheets so you could read the maps. Podge on back of map..podge on door....and stick!
TRY to smooth out air pockets. Since I had just cleaned out my files for 2018....had an old credit card and it worked great!
I cut around the maps so I had straight edges where I wanted.
So this one is ALMOST done! I coated the entire door after it dried with a coat of Modge Podge. Im not sealing it with acrylic poly mainly because this room gets very little use and no water anywhere. Spray painting the door handle today and then on to door number 2
The BEST part...my husband absolutely loves this!

I love this! Have wanted to paper a room with maps or paper memorabilia for years, after seeing a guest bath papered with covers from New Yorker magazine. I was a teenager then (back in the late Sixties), and have never forgotten that room. We have a narrow and dark hallway, and i think maps are just the thing to brighten it up, to make it interesting. Question: what can i coat the walls with after hanging the maps with modge podge? Would like to seal them for cleaning, also, we have dogs.

    Thanks/ katie

Great way to show local areas to visitors and for your own use.

The left side is all different maps of Oregon..the right door is our trip cross country last year...It starts in Oregon....goes to Maine and finishes back in Oregon
