Painting over old stained wood

by Leona
I would love to paint the wood in my home but afraid every little touch will leave scratches. Is this possible? It has been stained for 28 years. The polyurethane coat on it was a very light coat which has mostly been wiped away from years of cleaning I assume . Thanks

Go to your local Homedepot and ask in the paint department for some help. I think it needs to be stripped.

You can paint over stain as long as you get rid of the shine - either sand or use a deglosser.

That's what I was thinking but I was hoping it would be as simple as painting coats of primer then the paint. I have many health problems that has kept me from doing upkeep like I want, I guess I'm looking for an easy way out now. Thanks
