I always put it face down on towel and ironed it from the back. You can also use a steamer on it.
Iron with steam on the back side of the fabric. If cotton, use the cotton setting. If a mix, use a cooler setting

I agree with steam, but if you need a crease, iron on the outside with a hand towel and press very lightly.
My Aunt taught me to iron it inside out and then to crease it use a damp tea towel.
Put it in the dryer with a damp towel. Take it out right away or just before it stops and hang.
