I would ask a friend, or a contractor to check your attic area, just to be sure there is no leaks in the attic., or roof area. Then, if no problems, ask a plaster contractor, who can fix this. I don't this this should be done in rainy weather, so take heed to this, ok? Best wishes, J.

First make sure your leak is fixed . Put bleach and water in a spray bottle 50/50 mix cover your eyes and any area that this spray could drop on . This should lighten and remove the stains for a quick fix.

Most important Where is the leak coming from? If it was storm damage to roofing, talk to insurance to have fixed. Always start with what you can get insurance to do. You pay enough for home owner's policy.

After the repairs, cut out whole section that leak is on. Go back to ceiling rafter's to have something to nail to. Wear mask as spoors are common in sheetrock material. Some are very nasty.

You will need piece of sheetrock to cover area removed, sheetrock tape, nails, and spackle. Also get a couple of friends to come over and help lift it into place. Nail all edges about 1 inch spacing along rafters. One extra tap on each nail head; you want the dent to be filled with spackle. Along edges spread in spackle, cover with tape and more spackle. smooth in and let dry. Allow 24 hours. Sand any really rough spots. Brush off dust and paint with flat paint in a similar color to ceiling. Go back with 2nd coat to cover whole ceiling. Semi gloss best to give shine but not glare.

If the leak is fixed and the ceiling isn't sagging or cracking, wash the area with bleach water to try to lessen the stain. Let it dry completely. Under coat with Kilz or one of the others to cover the stain so it doesn't bleed through. Follow the directions on the can for how many coats to do and how long you have to wait before painting.

You are going to need a product called Killz, it's designed seal off water damage. If you don't it will bleed thru again. If the sheet rock has gone punky, meaning it has become mushy even if dry. Push a knife into it to check, good rock really can't be penetrated. Those sections have to be removed and replaced, then taped, retextured. A lot of work that is above you head!

First you find the leak. You will have to trace the wet areas back to the spot on the roof where the water is coming in. If the leak is from your plumbing, you will have to isolate the leak to the area of pipe that is damaged. Once you find the leak, you will have to make the necessary repairs. Roof repairs will have to be on the outside, while indoor plumbing will have to be worked on from the inside. You may need to make the original hole in the ceiling a little larger so that you can reach the damaged section of pipe.

The solution begins along with good flashing, due to the fact that this should quit leaks from rainwater and might quit the leaks through ice dams too. Start by removing the actual shingles right down to the wooden sheathing and slide a strip associated with adhesive ice-and-water hurdle (available where roof tools are sold) underneath the soffit/main roofing joint. Based on the way the roofs sign up for, you might have to slice a port to work this in far sufficient. It will overlap an additional bit of ice-and-water hurdle laid beneath, completely right down to the top side. This will cover probably the most leak-prone places. After that reshingle, slipping metal step blinking behind the fascia board (the cut behind the actual gutter). The actual valley flashing, laid on the joint in which the two roofing meet, ought to overlap the stage flashing a minimum of 2 within. In case leaks still occur through ice dams, consider setting up roof edge heating system cables. Enhanced attic insulation as well as ventilation are often methods to avoid ice dams, however they may not be efficient in this complex roof scenario.

This is the worst thing that's ever happened to me. After a big rain, I started to notice like little streaks on my ceiling, and I didn't pay attention to it at that point. The worst thing I could have done because the water started to accumulate there until it made a huge stain on the ceiling just like in your case. I had a hard time finding where the leak was, and I had to find a roof repair near me as soon as possible to fix it. It didn't cost me a fortune because it wasn't that bad, but it could have been worse.

Hi there, Kilz 2 should do the trick. You can use the spray version, which is normally an exact color match, or brush it on. If brushing, you will most likely have to paint the entire ceiling. Use a thick nap roller for that job.

    Hello,

If it is dried out, then you can use a "Stain Blocker" over the stain and then when dry. re- Emulsion the ceiling.
