I'm changing it over to Farmhouse/rustic. Dark Brown sofa. Wood stained coffee table.

  • so much of the farmhouse look have very neutral wall colors, shades of white or cream. That allows the openness of the space and the decorating items be the center of focus. I think the brown sofa is fine but you may want to lighten up the throw pillows and perhaps a large galvanized or woven tray on the coffee table will bring in more farm-ish feel.

Yes, lighten the room up with cream paint. Like painting the frames. Also I noticed all your nick nacks are about the same size and of different shades of brown. Choose another color to lighten things up. They need to be varied in size. A large lamp would look good where the small one is also.

That sounds like what you have in the picture pretty much. Pick an accent color you like and pick it up in the sofa pillow, picture mats, lamp shades throughout the room.

Whilst I like the Map Picture - along with the Hippo and other items on Coffee table plus cushion covers, I think they are not appropriate for the look you are going for. I venture to suggest they are replaced with - A Large Rustic Mirror - Rustic Plant Pot to place Plant in and move it to where the Lantern is in the picture. Maybe use a Basket of Fruit or flowers on coffee table on Rustic Cloth, Maybe Gingham?? and or use Gingham for Cushion covers or other Rustic looking ................. Maybe you could also have a tall Wooden Coat stand in the corner to hang suitable items from.

You need some incidentals that are contrasting colors that still tie in. For example (and this is just an example) a 6 x 8 rug under the coffee table with some incidental brightness in small patches of green, yellow, red, orange, or burgandy colors. It would need a little brown high lights, but be mostly light tan with the colors in some small pattern. Then the curtains need to pick up say a light green out of the carpet, a throw pillow or two of highlighted color of yellow or light green, or red, etc. The rug would tie them together but still lighten the room. The curtains would fit, the throw pillows or a vase on a table would be even brighter colors found in the rug. You have a great start, I think a rug to pull the seating together and some colors would be great.

I am also incorporating farmhouse style with a dark brown sofa all leather. Bigger than I need. I think to start add some texture to the walls that speak Farmhouse style. Like board and batten or shiplap. Then you can go to color. My farmhouse style would be more browns and creams/whites. Here a are some pics I love that say Farmhouse!!

lighten up with egg shell color. Visit a home store for color selections, pick out, bring home and select what you like. Add lighter color pillows to your sofa, also lighter colors to your coffee table, add lighter colors of flowers to your flower arrangement. Paint your picture frames a lighter color and group over your sofa, add farmhouse items to your picture wall arrangement. Lighten and highlight your furniture with paint and rub off before it dries. Have fun!
