Painting Interior Doors

One way to make a drastic change in your home on a very limited budget is to paint your interior doors. Here is a tutorial that can help even the novice painter!
You will need a couple of items: a paint tray, small roller brush, a small can of paint; usually one can is enough for two doors, so if you are doing more make sure you do the math ahead of time. You will also need a drop cloth and wipes to clean up mistakes.

Tip- Forgot to get a drop cloth at the store? Use a ripped up trash bag instead! Just slip under the door you are painting and when you're done, throw it away!
Here was my front door before. Make sure to use painters tape around the door knob, any locks or fixtures on your door you don't want painted.

Tip- Use aluminum foil instead of tape for your door knob. Just fit the foil around the knob!
Ask your local home improvement store which kind of paint they think best for the interior front door. Different climates will require different paint. My sales person recommended exterior paint, which is what I used but check first to make sure.
By the way, the "during" will be ugly. Do not be dismayed! You are creating a masterpiece!

Note- see my trash bag under the door?
Almost there! Starting to look amazing already!
Here is the finished product! I loved this door for many years and loved how easy this DIY was to do in my home. It made a HUGE difference with only less than 50 dollars spent! So easy, that I have since painted this same door two more colors!
Blue!
And the current color, gray! The paint on the doors lasted amazingly, I just felt the need for different color. icon

Tip- I didn't have to sand the doors in between colors because mine are metal. But I did use a paint with primer added for easier painting.
