Go to your local home improvement store and ask for plate hangers. My mom used them all the time for her Scandinavian plates and never had one fall. The have a spring in the middle to accommodate different sizes and wires that come out of that which hold the plate itself. Plates look real good on the walls, even mixed in with the right pictures. Just make sure they are in a place where they won't get bumped, just like any picture they can be knocked off the wall and it won't just be the picture glass that breaks, it will be the plate itself.

You could also use wire plate hangers or both for added security. You can buy those on Amazon too or at your local hobby store.
