Don't throw away your old horse swing! Simply add a few things to it to create your own life-sized carousel! Perfect for Christmas décor, portraits or a fancy decoration!

I love Christmas decorating! There is just something about getting to add sparkly lights all around the house that just makes me so happy! As a child, my favorite thing besides the sparkly lights were carousel ornaments! That is something that will never change because this year, I scaled it up and created a huge carousel decoration for Christmas!

If you are interested in learning how to make your own amazing carousel decoration, read on! This is incredibly easy to do. The hardest part was figuring out what to use with my old horse swing set attachment and now I've done that work for you!
Start by drilling a hole on the top and bottom of your horse where you would like the pole to go through. Make sure they are perfectly on top of each other so your carousel will stand straight. Test your holes to make sure your PVC pipe will fit through.
Next, screw the metal threaded flange on to the center of the wooden base. Screw the nipple into the flange and then attach a coupling and the shorter PVC pipe to the coupling.
Now, hook another coupling on to the top of the shorter PVC pipe and attach the longer PVC pipe to this.  This joint will actually hold the weight of the horse.
Now that your horse is in place, Glue a plastic ball (Christmas ornament) to the top of the PVC pipe.

Finally,  you will paint your horse with the look you would like. I painted mine with gold spray paint and then used metallic green and pink acrylic paint to accent the hoofs, saddle and reigns.

I also added some sequins to a few areas on the saddle and bridle to make it extra sparkly!
You can paint your carousel however you choose. I think for Christmas this would also look great with poinsettias or some pine tree trimmings!
I hope you enjoy making your own Christmas carousel! We would love to see your awesome pictures once you try this out! Tag us on Instagram or on our Facebook page! Be sure to subscribe and follow us on YouTube for more DIY ideas!
