Upcycled Fence GATE

The old gate was a sagging hot mess! I had to lift it up to open and close every time. One day I‘d had enough! Demolition day had arrived!
The old sagging gate
My neighbor had an old decorative iron piece. I discovered it exactly fit between the treated 4x4 and my brick house. It was all black, so I spray painted the leaves.
Decorative wrought iron piece in place
So I now built a frame, got it hinged to the 4x4 and it was swinging freely but the square was quite large. (40” wide and 4’ tall)
Framed half with old chair back half
I salvaged all the old fence boards I could but many were rotted and unusable. I found a broken oak chair and cut off the backside...using it for half the gate. See the chair? It is upside down.
So I added a couple extra rungs to the chair. Now for the other half....I had a piece of salvaged decorative tin. It was from an old steam radiator cover. I tacked it to a piece of plywood which I cut an oval in. (Not bad)
The oval
I rescrewed the old fence boards on, cutting around the oval
Almost done...
I stained the whole gate and added an extra treated board onto the top.
Looking in towards the backyard
Looking out towards the street
remounted the big hook and eye to latch the gate. Done.
Ta da!
looking back in.... success....it took me a couple days. I’ve never built anything and I’m an old woman! Plus with one extension cord I had to plug in the circular saw , unplug the saw, plug in the drill, unplug the drill, plug in the screwdriver, unplug the screwdriver, plug in the circular saw etc etc. you wouldn’t want to hire me by the hour! But I’m sure someone that knew what they’re doing could do this in a couple hours! I may have to stain the arbor above next summer.
