We love seeing pieces like this in our shop! There's so much love & history! This set once belonged to our client's Great Grandmother ... and then was passed down to our clients Grandmother to started refinishing but never had the chance to finish. Our client then inherited this 4 piece set and hired us to finish refinishing for her 3 year old daughters room (once we finish this piece it will have officially been in their family for 5 generations!!!) ! Come see this Superior Makeover!
Here's the "before" photo of the dresser and desk/vanity.
Here's a close up of the staining on the vanity top. As you can see the stains are really deep into the wood. These stains were though out the furniture pieces.

Our clients had a few choices ....

1. We replace the wood that is stained and build them a new solid wood pieces
2. We stain in a dark stain colour to help camouflage the stains throughout the pieces - depending on the stain choice the stains may still show through
3. We do a painted finish

Please note: sanding is not an option due to the deepth of the stains and it would ruin the profile of this piece.
Here's a another close up of the stained wood.
Here's the mirror that attaches to the desk/vanity. We plan to remove the mirror right away to see if we can get it cleaned up an preserve it. If it's not fixable our client said for use to order new mirror.
This tape I am guessing has been on the mirror for several years. We tried pulling it away but all the adhesive remained on the mirror.
This is my favorite product for removing tape residue... It's made by Saman in Canada and it's called " Goo Eliminator" ... I like it best because it's eco friendly and super concentrated. Also it does not dry out my uber sensitive hands like the other "Goo Gone" stuff you find at your hardware store.

*make sure to shake the bottle before use because it's an all natural product and it tends to settle at the bottom of the container*
Once we removed all the tape and there was just the tape residue we saturated the glass with Saman Goo Eliminator and let it sit and penetrate for about 15-20min before we scraped off with a razor.
Once we scraped off everything we could we applied one more coat just to make sure we removed any little bits we may have missed.
Our clients choose a soft shabby chic - rustic farmhouse painted and distressed finish using Superior Paint Co. Bone White, Train Station with a Satin Varnish.

Steps:
1. Prep the surface (clean, repair, lightly sand, clean, ect.)
2. Paint in Train Station
3. Varnish
4. Paint Bone White
5. Distress to highlight the Train Station
6. Varnish

Superior Paints are Eco friendly Water Based and 100% save for a little girls room! There is no nasty chemical smells like you get with oil based products.
Our clients main concern was durability which is why they choose Saman Satin Varnish. The more coats of Saman Varnish the more durable the finish will be which is why we plan to apply 5-7 coats.

Please Note: The bare minimum we do is 2 coats of Varnish for the body and 3 coats on table tops ... but when it's a concern to our client and they want added durability we suggest 5-7 coats of Varnish.
Here's the pieces painted in Superior Paint Co. Transtaion and sealed. We let cure for a couple days before we applied the top Bone White chalk paint colour.
Here's the "After" of the mirror! We were able to save the beveled glass! *So sorry the lighting in our shop is doing funny things today the colour looks pinky/purple - scroll down to see a better photo*
Here's the finished set! We painted in Bone White and then did a soft wet distressed using water and a cloth to expose the Transition. We then applied 5 coats of Saman sealer- sanding between every coat for a high buttery smooth finish.
I really love this colour it's a soft light grey chalk paint colour. Here's a close up. These pieces needed to cure for 7 days before our delivery guys were able to deliver to their home.
I really love these vintage style pulls from Superior Paint Co. I've used them on many projects. They work great if you have a vintage piece that you want to add a bit of glam or sparkle!icon
Here's the before and after! Our clients came in and their so pleased with our work! We made their vision become a reality! They said it was exactly what they wanted and will look perfect in their little girls room!
