Can I paint cheap laminated furniture?

When I did my daughters nursery 6 yrs ago I picked an armoire, a dresser and a bookshelf. All cherry wood color But they are not solid wood. Some of the laminate is peeling off.
My daughter wants to update her room. I’m not very crafty but after seeing a couple of projects on this site it gave me hope.
Indtead of going out and buying all new furniture, can I really paint the pieces we already have?
I guess the dresser is particle board and laminate. The book shelf and armoire have held up nicely. If I can paint these i would truly appre some tips.
Thanks so much!

yes prime first Your paint will adhere better. Try to lightly sand then prime and paint. Or you could spray paint with the paint made for outdoor furniture it’ll stick nicely .

Try sanding rough areas, then use a primer and the color she would like. Send before and after pics. Fun project for mother/daughter.

Yes I did . I lightly sanded it so the paint would stick to it and not creep. Then I did two coats of a water based "bull's eye sealer" and two coats of water base semi glosslatex enamel paint. I did it all with a paint paint brush. It goes faster if you use a roller to apply the paint and then immediately go over the rolled on paint with a brush.
