Kitchen ceiling - ideas please to cover holes!

Hi, I have a reasonably sized kitchen which is in an extension to a 350 year old cute thatched cottage in the UK.
However, in it there are loads of 1980's horrid spotlights, (14 of them in total .....!) most of which do not work anymore, some are just holes now, and when they are on, the ones that work, they give off a ghastly bright light. I have found some nice small pendant lights which I want to place in the centre between the two spots if possible, rather than have another 14 of them, I want to reduce their number by half, which will be plenty!
So, this will leave me with the issue of having 2 holes in the ceiling, one on either side of the new lights .... I am looking for ideas therefore on how to cover them up once the spots are removed?

These ones (4 of them) are slightly smaller, maybe 5" but I can't reach them to measure, they are at the other side of the kitchen and have a much netter ceiling height - these I am planning to replace with something wrapped around/hanging from an old ladder, as I do have that extra height here
Not a great pic, but if I went outside now it would be worse - the weather is AWFUL!
If you have the ability to patch the holes once the lights are removed, that might be best. If not, this link will give you some ideas.

Also, years ago there were metal covers for old indoor chimney holes. That might work, too. Hope these help.

Your home is beautiful! I love those wood beams! Can you extend the base of your pendant lights to cover the holes? Like a faux wood beam base that your pendants will hang from?
Another alternative would be to buy or make plaster ceiling medallions to cover your holes. You could use something similar in other spots so it looks like decor, not patches.

One thought-Here in the US we have (due to government regulation,) long lasting LED lighting to replace the older lighting which is much softer and in my opinion a different color of lighting.
I’m not sure if the UK has that option or not— it may be a consideration from the more old-fashioned harsh lighting that existed before and possibly solve your aesthetic concerns. Having the white rimmed ones make the ceiling look more continuous.

Thank you! Yes all our light bulbs have changed, we seem to be able to get a 'warm white' which is a soft yellow light but not much use to do anything with, or 'cool/daylight white' which has a bluey hue and looks very cold! I sort of need something in between!
