My suggestion would be to go with native grasses that would typically be found in that setting. Do you know what Zone you are in? You can find it here.

We live on the banks of a year-round creek that often reaches the top of it's banks in the rainy season. It has taken huge trees down, but the one thing that always survives and thrives, is FERN. The runner-roots seem to hold on tighter than any other plant and they're attractive to boot!
What zone are you in?
reeds are the best bet as they will survive any flooding and stay alive eric
Check with a LOCAL nursery... they can give you the best advice on what to plant.
