I discovered something at Dollar Tree I just had to try. As simple as they are, I wonder how I missed them before. And I liked using them so much, I bought 2! For $1 each, I found a whole display of stick-on Phrases.

First phrase-Scripture
The Phrases come on a thick sheet of paper, and they are printed on clear adhesive plastic. The words and pictures are printed to fit together to save space, so my first step was to cut the pieces apart. Then I prepared my first wood base.

Back of a sign
1st Piece: I found this old sign at Goodwill for $2.99. I thought I would paint over the front, but when I flipped it over, I liked the back side even better. I white-washed the natural wood, then a slightly thinned coat of my favorite blue-green. When that was dry, I placed the words in an arrangement and stared at the board a while.

A little seashore
I decided this wall art needed a little extra. Since I did this while we were on vacation, I thought some pearly seashells would be great.

Finished: Wall Art 1
To get a good photo, I took this wall art out to the balcony where the sun shines all day long. It was harder to frame the photo, but the color is just what I was after.

Wood Base 2
2nd Piece: The second wood base I actually bought in Walmart in Rome, Ga. I think it was $4.99. The front already had a very light coat of clear sealer.

Matching Pieces
I love the colors in this Phrase, so I decided to try to paint the background to match or blend on the wood. When the paint was dry, I placed the two large pieces of the Phrase on the wood. I did just a little blending from wood to stick-on, and sprayed it with several thin coats of clear sealer.

Finished- Wall Art 2
This piece of Wall Art dried on the balcony. I think it looks almost as if someone painted a watercolor or wet chalk picture right onto the boards.
Time estimate of 4 hrs. does not include drying time, but I also worked a little off and on, over five days. If you know what you’re doing before you start, you could whip these out in less than an hour apiece, not counting shopping and drying.

Wall Art 1-B
This is how the first piece of Wall Art looked when I bought it! And if someone likes this side better, it’s still there, since I did my work on the back.

The final display
In my search for the perfect light, both pieces of Wall Art ended in the kitchen with eight overhead spotlights. Although I am not the artist, I may do more of these. Especially for beginners, this is a creative way to get started. You can experiment with background stain and paint, with arrangement of the decals, and with orientation and display of your work!
Please, any polite questions and comments are welcome! I love to talk to friends and Hometalkers!
