What to do with a blank brick wall

by JaneKerley
This large brick wall is on the back of my house. I would like to decorate it in some way, but have no idea how. I do not want to paint on it or do anything that would be permanent. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Each of the three windows are 36" wide.

3m makes hooks for outside use. Go to a craft store like hobby lobby or michaels and get an outdoor ornament to hang, You can also use brick hooks to attach garlands or other ornaments to

Jane, I would hang a big lighted cross on my wall. My friend made a huge wreath that she has used for years. He husband has to get on a very tall ladder to hang it. I asked another friend how she got a lighted wreath on her y’all outside wall, and she said her son goes on the roof and hangs the wreath on a heavy-duty extension card. Several friends have the Lone Star of Texas on their inside and outside walls. What message represents your family? That’s your decoration. ☺️

I would plant some nice flowering shrubs along that back wall and/or add a trellis with a climbing flowering vine.

I vote for the shrubs and trellis.

I also vote for the shrubs and trellis. You can find many flowering shrubs that would look great against the brick. I have rose shrubs along my garage that grow to five feet tall and four feet wide that bloom all summer.

    Hi Jane,

What about some shrubs or grasses along the bottom of the wall, and a few bird sculptures flying up from left to right as if they've been flushed from the garden? I got the idea from the pattern of the bricks on the wall. It also harkens back to an old trend here in New Zealand for a trio of ceramic birds in flight on an interior wall, which is now fashionable again in many variations.

I also like Jewel Martin's idea of a sculpture that means something to your family.

    Best of luck.

Unless you are prepared to do the maintenance (clipping, painting, cleaning) necessary to keep whatever you put in this area looking top notch, then go for something either very low, or no maintenance, and something that can be left out in any season.
