If you buy a small container of lightweight spackle, you can fill in the holes with your finger. Smooth it with a damp fingertip or sponge. If it shows any raised edges after dry, you can use a damp sponge to smooth it out, or sand it (I like sponge sanding blocks). If there are a lot of holes, it may take some time. You can use a flexible scraper if you don't want to use your finger, also.
If the holes are quite small, white toothpaste works. If holes are bigger fill the hole (not quite full because it will crack) after it dries, then fill the hole the rest of the way and smooth the top.
