My double-paned non-opening windows are cloudy.

Could the cloudiness be moisture take is leaking in between the two panes?

Oh Laurel, I wish I had good news for you. There is one, and only one way to fix this. The windows need to be replaced.

A few years ago, when I bought my house, the living room picture window looking out into the forest was milky white. I looked everywhere to find a non-replacement solution. The house needed so many things fixed and there is only one me. Down payment had used up nearly all of my savings.

Today I have a new window in the living room. It was the only fix. Nice looking out to an unfettered view of the trees and wildlife.

It sounds like the seal in the windows aren't completely sealed. You can't repair them. I would contact a window company about this, I don't know if they would be able to repair it, you may have to replace them, they would know.

Mine have gotten that way also and it's very frustrating if you're a person who likes CLEAN windows! The seal has given out and air has gotten inside. There's no way to clean them with out taking the whole window out. I don't even know if the panes would come apart. They come from the factory sealed together. I was told the only way was to replace them. And who's gonna pay for that? Good luck. Maybe you have netter window glaziers in your town.

When double panes get cloudy it's from the seal being broken which allows air and moister to get into it. I really don't know of a way to repair the window other than replacing it totally. You can try taking the window out and separating the glass to clean it but it is almost totally impossible to place it without getting moisture between them again and the result will be the same only it will happen a lot faster each time. If you can't place them you will just have to live with this issue. I know it's not the response you were hoping for but it is about the best one I know.

We took our patio doors to a glass company that removed the stained glass and replaced them. We found the company in the phone book.

It is possible to repair this, but I strongly urge you to get a pro at a glass company to do it if you decide to go this way. One of the older, more experienced guys. Window glass is thinner than you would think and extremely dangerous for the typical DIYer. Frankly, you should live with it, or get a new sealed unit or new window (depending on the cost of the whole window and/or the availability of the part).

The fogging means that the seal between the two pieces of glass has failed and water vapor has gotten into the interior. The fogging you see is condensation. You have two practical choices: live with it since it has no significant effect on the insulating properties or; replace the fogging units.
