How to hide a wooden stove pipe hole in the wall.

We are remodeling an old house and in the kitchen there is a hole in the wall where a wood stove pipe once was. The wood stove is still in the house so we don't want too completely "fix" it in case the new owners choose to keep that type of heating. Right now it has one of those ugly metal plates covering it, which we painted over and that didn't help it very much. Wish I had some pictures to share that would paint a better picture. It stands out on the wall about 2 1/2 inches and it is also below the medium point of the wall, so just hanging a picture of some type of cabinet over it would look out of place. Any suggestions?

Just paint it the color of the wall.

Thank you Erin, but we did and I think it is the 2 1/2 inches where it sticks out that is making it look bad.

Is it in an area of the room where a very long piece of art would work... or a tall bookcase or armoire?

Those plates are made to cover the hole. Anything else you do would be more permanent. Picture, shelving, clock, anything to cover it.

Thank you William. Yes, you are right, anything else would be more permanent. However, the location is not where we could hang a clock, picture or shelving and it look right. But ty so much for your suggestion.

  • I would not stress over it too much. Anyone buying the house will know what it is for and most likely be grateful you left it. If that is a "deal breaker" then address at that time.

A long piece of art would work. Thank you for that suggestion.

I have never heard of a wooden stove pipe that would be a fire hazard.
