a stiff scraper and elbow grease.... you can also use a small hand held grinder..... but it will make a LOT of dust.

Mastic remover, a scraper, elbow grease, and your best curse words. You will HATE this job, and the only easier way I know to do it is to cover the walls with a skim coat of plaster or 1/4" drywall and start again. Scrape off the loose mastic witha putty knife, paint with a bonding primer, and apply the drywall or plaster (not joint compound). If you are reinstalling ceramic tile, keep in mind that tile is heavy and will pull on the cover-up. Personally, we've always opted for starting with new drywall or cement board/blue board. Good luck.

Thank you. I was advised the same at the hardware store. The walls are cement so I should cover with cement if I want to eliminate the tiles. 😊
