Style Tips for a Modern Farmhouse Style:
  • Black is the new modern farmhouse accent
  • Use a lot of white and wood
  • Add shiplap or wood plank walls
  • Add modern elements within the lighting fixtures
  • Use reclaimed wood

The creation of an additional living room/hang out area was the main reason for finishing off this basement, but we also added a cozy reading nook that became it's own little space complete with a fireplace and custom built-ins. Coffered ceilings were also added for a fun and warm look in this custom space. In addition, a guest bedroom was added complete with a reclaimed sliding barn door. Finally, a bathroom was installed to finish out the space.

Using subtle statement pieces in your designs is a perfect way to incorporate the modern farmhouse feel, such as a reclaimed mantel and barn door, patterned tiles in the bathroom, and black metal pieces.

Throughout the whole space, we painted all of the walls . White Dove is another one of our go-to white paint colors and has been for awhile. Whites can be tricky, and again, when you look at this one in the store it looks more like a cream, but when you get it up on the walls, it’s the perfect white. Not too bright and not too dark. And it compliments the wall color perfectly.
