Repair or hide worn faux leather office chair

Joyce Depow
by Joyce Depow
The used chair is just the size we need in our small apt. But the head rest and seat is worn. Can we cover it ? Hide it? Thanks

Reupholster it. Just take off everything you want to replace as carefully as possible as you will use that as your pattern. Take pictures with your phone as you go along or write down everything you do in order. You can use staples and a staple gun (not expensive) to put the material back on. Go slow, stay organized. It's not hard.

It depends how badly worn the leather is. If it's not too bad you can apply leather dye, wipe it off, let it dry, then polish it with matching wax based polish, like shoe polish. If it's badly stained or worn, you may need to go with either a darker colored dye (to cover stain), or reupholster it. You could also opt for a slip cover, rather than making permanent changes to the chair, which has the advantage of letting you remove the slipcover for occasional cleaning.
